Introduction
My goal as a student-athlete is to successfully graduate high school and get my International Baccalaureate diploma while improving in my swimming career and still compete at meets. I am very hardworking and disciplined in my sport and I am improving more and more over time, even though I have been swimming professionally for only 3 years. My main events are usually 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke and 50 and 100 freestyle. I train six times a week, and usually after training I go to the gym for conditioning training. After that I would study and get my school work done. Therefore, I am managing to balance academics with sports pretty well and I am getting good grades in school. Additionally, I was also a part of the school swimming team this year, and I got “coaches reward” as well as a diploma in March 2024.

Another part of what makes me unique is my background in music. I studied violin at the “Lubomir Pipkov” music school (The #1 music school in Bulgaria) from 1st to 6th grade and continued my musical journey with the Pioneer Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. I played as first violin and performed at major venues, such as Bulgaria Hall, Minoritenkirche in Vienna, and the National Palace of Culture. The orchestra has earned several awards, and I’m proud to have been part of it until 2024. Although I had to step away to focus on the IB curriculum, my time in the orchestra was invaluable.

In addition to these activities, I’ve participated in various school events, such as winter concerts, three musicals, and sports competitions. I placed 4th in a cross-country event and received my “coach’s award” and diploma at a school swimming competition in Athens. Below is a link to my TEDx performance, where I played “Sevdana” by Georgi Zlatev-Cherkin.

Interview
What makes you different?
What sets me apart is my strong work ethic, discipline, and natural talent. I have ambitious goals in both my sport and education, and I’m determined to achieve them. I’ve been swimming competitively for almost three years, and through hard work and dedication, I’ve caught up to teammates who’ve been swimming for much longer. I attend swim meets whenever possible and push myself to my limits each time. I don’t use my shorter time in the sport as an excuse but show up to practice every day, even if it means occasionally missing school—something my parents don’t always approve of. However, I believe in balancing both education and passion.
College goals
I want to continue my swimming and educational career in college as well and keep improving. My goal in general is to prove that it is never too late to start doing what you are passionate about and with the right mindset and discipline, I believe that I can accomplish anything. Yes, I might not be the best for now, but If I have managed to drop this many times for 2 years and accomplished so many concerts and tours I know that I will get to that professional level I have to be at. I want to go to college abroad so I can develop educational and training skills to another level.
Why do you want to compete in college?
From a very young age, I've always been passionate about any type of sport. I am progressing very fast and I believe that I will reach the level of competition in college.
Swimming and life Goals?
Once I get to a more professional level, my goal is training to win. I want to prove that I can do more than others and show that I can do what pro athletes can for a shorter period of time because I don’t want to keep regretting not starting earlier forever.
Anything else we should know?
I love going to the gym as well as cooking high protein meals. I go to the gym 4-5 times a week and I like challenging myself with reps until failure.
Additionally, I do surfing and I have been surfing for around 5 years now as well as wakeboarding. I also ski during the winters whenever possible.
